Introducing Perth - The Ballantynes Guide to Moving to Perth

Is the Fair City of Perth Calling?

Maybe you're planning on moving to Perth in the not too distant future or perhaps it's just one of a number of destinations you're considering. To help you, we've created a short guide to introduce you to the City of Perth.

Welcome to Perth, Scotland

With 90% of Scotland's population just 90 minutes away from Perth, it's little wonder that Perth, and Perthshire, is described as the Heart of Scotland. Perth is an ideal satellite city if you're looking to commute to Edinburgh or Glasgow. But it's also a great City in its own right.

The districts of Perth

Perth City Centre

The City Centre of Perth distinguishes itself by its mix of retail, restaurants, bars and cafes. But it also has a blend of modern luxury apartments, as well as Georgian and Victorian property all right in the heart of central Perth.

Craigie

To the South West of Perth City Centre, Craigie is a popular residential area of the City with quick, easy access to the centre. It's well served by shops and primary schools.

Muirton

Situated to the North of Perth, Muirton has a mix of Council owned rental property, as well as privately owned accommodation. It has smaller independent retailers as well as the Asda Supermarket within its area. A major new residential development is being built which will provide a large number of new family houses as well as flats and apartments.

Letham

To the west of Perth, Letham is a busy area of the city with a mix of rented and privately owned property.

Glasgow Road / Broxden / Oakbank

Given its proximity to Perth Academy and Perth High School as well as Viewlands Primary and Oakbank Primary Schools – it's not surprising that this area is a popular choice for families with younger children. Add in the easy access for commuters to the motorway network and you'll understand why this is one of the more sought after residential areas.

Bridgend / Gannochy / Kinnoull

Over the bridges that cross the Tay, you'll find the areas of Bridgend, Gannochy and Kinnoull. Kinnoull is particularly popular given the spectacular views over the city and surrounding area.

Other key areas of Perth and the surrounding area include -
  • Scone
  • Auchterarder
  • Huntingtower
  • Ruthvenfield
  • Bridge of Earn
  • Crieff
