The former Dunaros Care Home & Hospital is situated on the east side of the B8035 road from Salen to Gruline about 150 yards to the south of its junction with the A848 Craignure to Tobermory road, which runs through the centre of the village. Craignure is about 11 miles to the south east and Tobermory is about 10 miles to the north. The property is on the southern edge of the village.

The property extends in total to about 1.01 acres and the boundaries are outlined in red on the plan. It is a relatively flat and level site. Access is directly from the adjoining public road by way of a tarmac access road that leads to an extensive car parking area beyond which is the former hospital building. The former single storey ‘T’ shaped hospital building is believed to date from the late 1960’s and is of similar construction to “Dorran” houses. That is the external walls are formed by externally rendered reinforced concrete panels which are held together by steel bolts. There is a pitched tiled roof on timber trusses. Floors are mainly suspended timber floors. The building has not been used for about 2 years and is now unoccupied. The gross external floor area of the building is about 6,700 ft². The accommodation is all at ground floor level. Ramps provide disabled access to the building at three entrances. Opposite the north end of the former hospital building is a Garage/Store building of similar construction with a gross floor area of about 500 ft².
